From 1534 to 1582 Oda Nobunaga, played a key role in shaping the course of history in feudal Japan. His policy of unifying a country controlled by many feuding daimyo was furthered in a series of victories characterized by brilliant tactics and the first organized use of firearms. His unification policy became a reality under his successor, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, shortly before the end of the 16th century.
This Oda Nobunaga Clan Samurai Armor Yoroi is an authentic reproduction made of iron, steel, leather, cotton, silk and other materials that were traditionally used during the Warring States Period of Japan (Sengoku Jidai). Strictly made by hand in the traditional Japanese manner by highly skilled craftsmen. This is a real, life size armor which an average adult (with a height of 5′ 3″ – 5′ 9″ ) can wear and is fully functional. The clamshell dō features a pin hinge under the left armpit which can be removed and a cord can be laced through the hinges to accommodate a larger chest.
The kabuto is made in the hineno-jikoro style having 8 metal plates, and attached to it is a shikoro made from curved iron to protect the neck.
The dō is in the yokohagi okegawa ni-mai-dō style having large horizontal plates with the inside lined in silk. Okegawa refers to the tub-like shape of the dō. There are two types of okegawa dō: yokohagi (horizontal) and tatehagi (vertical). This dō features the yokohagi plates. Ni-mai-dō refers to the clamshell construction of the dō.
The sode and kusazuri are made of lamellar metal plates sewn together. The kote and suneate are made from steel splints connected together by chain armor and sewn to a cloth. The haidate is also made of lamellar metal plates sewn together on a cloth and leather.
This yoroi bears the Oda Nobunaga Clan mon/crest on the dō.
