Viking Sword

Using Ewart Oakeshott’s typology of Medieval swords, we’d classify this under Type Xa because of its narrower fuller (groove) on the blade. The blade is broad and flat and tapers gently to an often nearly rounded point just like the Type X. This Viking sword features a Type M lobed pommel (hot-peened) which was popular in England in the 13th and 14th centuries. The cross guard is style 3 which consists of a relatively short, rectangular-sectioned bar, but tapers towards the end like style 1 cross guard.
